Godzilla Movies: King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)

King Kong is one of Godzilla's more famous foes, but this King Kong has no relation to the 1933 Fay Wray classic. This King Kong is much bigger, about five times the size, of the original King Kong. The Toho King Kong is a god worshiped by the natives on Faro Island. King Kong often eats a type of berry, which only exists on the island, that makes him fall asleep.

King Kong was Godzilla's second monster foe, and appeared in the first Godzilla film in color. It was also the most successful Godzilla movie at the box office. In this movie, King Kong had also fought a gigantic octopus that attacked the village on Faro Island. In the end of the movie, both Godzilla and King Kong tumble into the water. King Kong later rises out of the water, and swims back to Faro Island. Godzilla is never seen. It is a huge debate among Godzilla fans, whether King Kong really won in King Kong vs. Godzilla. It is believed that in the Japanese version of the movie that Godzilla was the one that rose out of the water, and not King Kong. This is not true. In the Japanese version of the movie, King Kong does rise out of the water, but Godzilla's roar is heard, so there is no absolute victor in the end. The Toho Kong later appeared in 1967 in King Kong Escapes. Kong's size is dramatically reduced in this film. Kong fights Gorosaurus, and Mecha-Kong, a giant, man-made robot version King Kong (Just imagine Mechagodzilla as an ape, instead of Godzilla). Kong was also supposed to appear in the plot for ,what was later called, Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster. Toho decided to replace the main lead as Godzilla, rather than Kong, because Toho figured that having Godzilla in the film would bring in more money, rather than having Kong in the movie.
