King Ghidorah was a space monster
that flew from planet-to-planet attacking several civilizations.
In his debut film, Ghidirah, the Three Headed Monster,
Ghidorah came to Earth on a meteorite that impacted on the surface.
Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra decided to join forces to stop Ghidorah
from destroying the world. After a long brawl, Ghidorah retreated
back into space. In the next film, Godzilla vs. Monster-Zero,
men from Planet X (Xians) asked the people of Earth to give them
Godzilla and Rodan in exchange for a "miracle drug"
to stop all diseases, so they could stop Ghidorah from attacking
Planet X. The Xians then used a device to control Ghidorah, Rodan,
and Godzilla, and had them attack Earth, so the Xians could use
Earth as a colony. The control-device was then destroyed, and
Godzilla and Rodan attacked Ghidorah. The three monsters fell
into the ocean, and Ghidorah then escaped Earth, again.
In Ghidorah's next movie, Destroy
All Monsters, which takes place in 1999, Ghidorah is sent
to Earth by the Kilaaks to attack Earth's monsters. The monsters
were too much for Ghidorah, and Ghidorah was killed. King Ghidorah's
last major appearance in the Showa Series was in Godzilla
vs. Gigan. Controlled this time by giant aliean cockroaches,
Ghidorah and Gigan attack Tokyo. Godzilla and Anguirus come to
the rescue, and rout the monsters from Earth. Ghidorah's last
appearance in the Showa series was in Terror of Mechagodzilla,
in a flashback scene.
King Ghidorah, Godzilla's archenemy,
is the most popular Godzilla foe among Toho kaiju movie fans.
In the Western version of his premier film, Ghidirah, the
Three Headed Monster, King Ghidorah is referred to as "Ghidirah."
In later Godzilla films, his name was changed to "King Ghidorah,"
which sounded more like the original Japanese name "kingughidora."
The process for making King Ghidorah's suit is a very hard and
timely one. Each golden scale is placed one-at-a-time on Ghidorah's
body.

King Ghidorah was created by
people from the 23rd century. The Futurians, as they were called,
traveled in time back to 1992 claiming that Godzilla was going
to destroy Japan for good soon. The Futurians and the Japanese
government decided to travel back before 1954 to Lagos Island,
the home of a Godzillasaurus. In 1954 an H-Bomb test on the nearby
island Bikini mutated the Godzillasaurus into Godzilla. The Futurians
teleportated the Godzillasaurus away from Lagos, but at the same
time, left three genetically engineered creatures called Dorats
on the island. The Dorats mutated and combined to form one giant
monster, called King Ghidorah, from the H-Bomb test in 1954,
and later attacked Japan. The Futurians had lied to the Japanese
government about Godzilla's raid before and actually wanted to
destroy Japan with King Ghidorah because Japan became the most
powerful country in the world after the 20th century.
Meanwhile, a more powerful
Godzilla, made with modern nuclear weapons, was living off of
the coast of Japan. The new Godzilla later confronted King Ghidorah
and nearly killed him. Godzilla also sliced off King Ghidorah's
middle head using his trademark atomic heat ray. Godzilla then
went on to destroy the Futurians. Godzilla then advanced his
attack to Japan. One good Futurian, named Emmy, decided to travel
back into the future to revive King Ghidorah. The result was
Mecha-King Ghidorah.

The
Futurian Emmy traveled back into the 23rd century to revive the
wounded King Ghidorah. The result was Mecha-King Ghidorah. Emmy
replaced the missing middle head with a new mechanical one. She
also added in shock cables, and a "machine hand" that
would grab hold of Godzilla. Emmy then returned to the 20th century
and confronted Godzilla with her new super weapon. Mecha-King
Ghidorah grabbed hold of Godzilla and carried him to the ocean.
While flying, Godzilla used his atomic heat ray on Mecha-King
Ghidorah, and the two fell into the ocean. Emmy escaped from
Mecha-King Ghidorah, and returned to the 23rd century. In 1993,
the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center salvaged Mecha-King
Ghidorah's remains, and studied the technology to create new
anti-Godzilla weapons. The new super-weapons were the Garuda,
Mechagodzilla, and MOGUERA. |

Godzilla
- Mothra - King Ghidorah: Daikaiju Soukougeki (2001) |
During the Godzilla
series, King Ghidorah was always considered an enemy. This King
Ghidorah, though, is the first "good" one. Because
the millennim Godzilla was shrunk in size, 50 meters, Ghidorah
was shrunk too. The millennium King Ghidorah is, along with Mothra
and Baragon, an ancient god that protected the Earth. In 2004,
fifty years after Godzilla's first attack, Godzilla rises again
and attacks Japan. Mothra, Baragon, and King Ghidorah are then
awakened after a long nap, and decide to kill the menace. What
happens next? I won't tell you. You'll just have to wait until
Godzilla - Mothra - King Ghidorah: Daikaiju Soukougeki
is released in the U.S. |
