| Angilas
(or Anguirus) was Godzilla's first monster foe in the movie Godzilla
Raids Again (1955). He fought with Godzilla on an island
in the beginning of the movie and was killed by Godzilla near
Osaka castle. Angilas is a cousin of the the Ankylosaurus,
which lived millions of years before. He has brains on several
parts of his body and fights to the death in battles as seen
in Godzilla Raids Again. Angilas's second appearance was
in Destroy All Monsters (1968) as Godzilla's ally and
not his enemy. From that movie on Angilas remained Godzilla's
ally. He has appeared in six Godzilla movies including Godzilla's
Revenge (via stock footage), Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla
vs. Megalon (shortly for 1 scene), and Godzilla
vs. Mechagodzilla. Angilas today is a favorite among many,
including myself. Fans have always wanted Angilas to come back
in another movie. Rumors popped up during preproduction of Godzilla
X Megaguirus (this was before we knew the title of the movie)
and GMK that Angilas would return, but Toho (obviously)
confirmed that he wouldn't be returning. |
